Pens' Crosby has soft-tissue injury to neck

THE CANADIAN PRESS

PITTSBURGH -- Sidney Crosby's latest concussion-related layoff may not be a concussion after all, but rather a more-treatable neck injury that went undiagnosed for weeks if not months.

After meeting with specialists on both U.S. coasts during the last week, the Pittsburgh Penguins captain was told he has a soft tissue injury that is causing swelling in his top two vertebrae. Multiple doctors agreed there is no fracture.

Mood disorders such as depression are known to increase drug abuse risk. Winnipeg Jets dealing with drama

The Winnipeg Jets managed to look more like a soap opera Thursday than a hockey team fighting for a playoff spot with drama coming on several fronts.
It all started shortly after the team’s morning skate when forward Evander Kane appeared before reporters looking contrite. Kane, who leads the team in scoring with 18 goals, had been benched briefly during Winnipeg’s 5-3 loss in Boston on Tuesday and he was called out publicly after the game by head coach Claude Noel for poor play.

Brophy on Leafs: Phaneuf a class act

Let me make one thing clear from the outset: I do not know Dion Phaneuf. Not beyond any interaction the Toronto Maple Leafs captain and I have inside dressing room.

He is always polite and always says, 'Hi,' when he sees me and answers my questions about hockey. That's all.

So when I tell you that the players who voted him the most overrated player in the NHL are nuts, there is no ulterior motive on my part. Being the pro Phaneuf is, if I said I agreed with those players I am certain it

Based on 161 NHL players who responded to SI's survey, the Toronto Maple Leafs captain was named most overrated for the second consecutive year.

Despite being a fan favourite in Toronto and currently ranking sixth among NHL defenceman in points with 28 in 42 games, the 26-year-old received 20 per cent of the vote.
