Spector on Kelley: Best in the business

A year ago this week, upon Brian Burke's second anniversary at the helm of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Sportsnet columnist Jim Kelley filed his take on Burke's work to the Sportsnet web desk at 1:30 in the morning.

It was 1,283 words of Kelley's finest. He pointed out that this rebuild was bigger than Burke was letting on, that with time and some patience it could succeed.

That afternoon, Kelley succumbed to a long battle with pancreatic cancer. As for Burke's rebuild, it looks like Kelley was

Scan’t Evidence: Do MRIs Relieve Symptoms of Depression?

MOOD-MANIPULATING MAGNET? Image: Wikimedia

When a researcher asks a volunteer to slide head-first into the open eye of a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machine, the expectation is that the device's magnetic field will penetrate the skull to produce a faithful picture of the brain without changing its behavior. A new study suggests, however, that MRI machines do, in fact, manipulate brain activity—and they change the brain in a way that helps treat depression. In other words, MRIs
