Northern Districts have won the Plunket Shield for the 2011/12 season.
In an odd turn of events it was Canterbury, playing against Northern's nearest title rivals, Auckland, who ensured the symbol of first class cricket supremacy in New Zealand would be heading to Seddon Park for the winter.
