After 15 overs the Black Caps are 101-0 with Martin Guptill on 59 and Rob Nicol on 37.
Nicol and Guptill blazed 83 runs off the first 10-over powerplay.
Guptill raced to his 50 off just 38 balls hitting four fours and four sixes in the process.
