Jessica Ennis is a banker on present form, unbeaten in heptathlon since the last Olympics and present holder of the world and European titles and world indoor pentathlon championship.
Phillips Idowu has won every major triple jump title open to him except Olympic gold and he missed that in 2008 by only five centimetres.
