The Chiefs are thought to be chasing the signature of Sonny Bill Williams ahead of his All Black midfield colleague Ma'a Nonu.
Williams has signalled the likelihood of staying in New Zealand rugby but possibly moving north from the Crusaders to be closer to his mother in Auckland.
